Embracing Summer: Nature, Connection & Coming Home to Yourself

As we enter summer, life often feels lighter, with more optimism and joy around us. Those warmer sunrises, as you sip your coffee watching the dawn rise and listening to the birds sing while the world slowly stirs awake, or those beautiful sunsets on balmy evenings welcoming in the longer nights, remind us of the beauty of nature.

I am lucky enough to live by the sea, and I love nothing more than walking along the seafront, lying on the sand (and pebbles!), grounding my feet in the warmth beneath me and letting the sun embrace me with its rays. The cool waters and gentle lapping of the sea can feel like meditation in itself. Lie back and allow the waves to hold you while you tune into the calming sounds around you.

If you don’t live by the sea, enjoy the shade of tall trees, picnics on the grass, or simply sitting quietly in nature. Capturing these moments can ground us and bring us back to the present. Nature has an incredible way of nourishing the soul and reminding us to pause, breathe, and appreciate the simpler joys in life.

When we reconnect with nature and ourselves, even the heavier moments in life can begin to feel lighter. We become calmer, more present, and more appreciative of what we already have.

We are living in a world where everything feels constantly on show. Social media, comparisons, expectations, and the pressure to live up to the “perfect” lifestyle can leave us feeling overwhelmed. The list of things we should and shouldn’t do grows longer, and sometimes we lose sight of what genuinely makes us happy.

Through my own personal evolution and spiritual journey, I have come to realise that being at one with yourself is the beginning of true healing. Disconnecting from what no longer serves you may sound simple, but in reality it can be incredibly difficult. Yet I can honestly say it is one of the most empowering things you can do.

Taking time to discover your own thoughts, passions, and identity — separate from outside opinions or expectations — allows you to reconnect with who you truly are. Sometimes that joy is found in the smallest things: reading a book, visiting a new place, listening to music, gardening, walking in nature, or simply sitting in stillness.

The more time you spend connecting with yourself, the more you begin to recognise patterns, behaviours, and relationships that no longer align with who you are becoming. Over time, you start attracting people, experiences, and energy that feel more aligned with your authentic self.

Over the last few years, I have spent a lot of time alone. At first, it felt isolating and uncomfortable, but now I see it as something precious. It gave me the opportunity to truly know myself rather than constantly trying to fit in or meet everyone else’s expectations.

Of course, we all have responsibilities, work, children, and everyday commitments, and life cannot simply be abandoned. But there is a difference between surviving life and creating moments within it that bring peace, calm, and fulfilment.

So this summer, take time to reconnect — with nature, with stillness, and most importantly, with yourself. Sometimes the greatest healing begins the moment we slow down enough to truly listen.
